April NewFO's

I'm reporting in to the NewFO group with my April starts & finishes.  April ends with a super bright and cheery NewFO.  I posted about it a few days ago but have made a little more progress since.  From a line of fabric called Dilly Dally (by Me and My Sister for Moda) I've decided to make pinwheels!

Doesn't my latest block remind you of sweet yummy tangerines?  Pinwheel blocks go together fast and since these are made from charm pack squares it's even faster. I only had to cut down the diagonal and then cut the white into squares the same way.

So did you notice what's right in the center? Prairie Points...Yay.They are my second favorite next to pinwheel blocks.  And these are tiny.

The pattern I'm following was originally for a baby quilt so the smaller prairie points were perfect.

The original pattern could be made with just one charm pack and the 5 inch squares get cut into 2 1/2 in. squares to make the little prairie points.

Since I'm making a lap size quilt I "had" to order more Dilly Dally to have enough pinwheels.  How tragic...more Dilly Dally, haha. I toyed with the idea of making the prairie points a little bigger...but then I couldn't use the charms as easily. Don't want to do any more math than I have to (in the classroom) nor more cutting.   So we'll go with the small ones.

UFOs, NewFOs and Neither

I'm gonna start with NEITHER!

While I haven't been in a quilting mood lately,

I always seem to keep some sort of stitching going.

So here's a peek at a new "side" project...more about this in a minute.

I can't believe April is already here and I never posted my progress:

above my little fireplace mantel...it makes me smile!

And finally back to the NEITHER.

I started to get tired of all the red I've been working with lately,

and with April here I needed some colorful Spring cheer.

So last weekend I came across a cute, light floral embroidery pattern...

 ...rummaged through my embroidery floss stash...

...and have been happily stitching away the last week.

Without Rhyme nor Reason, no UFO or NewFO pressure

Just pure enjoyment working with a variety of color and stitches.

I recently contracted the cold I've been avoiding for many weeks, 

but at least I have something to keep my mind occupied.

NewFO Not Quite

I haven't posted in a while because I haven't made much progress on my NewFO list and didn't want to keep posting the same old thing. But I'm linking to the NewFO group at Cat Patches so here's what I have for February.

NewFOs - January

The NewFO Challenge over at Cat Patches was a great idea for keeping the projects I'm longing to try at the forefront of my mind.  That said, I was able to start two of the items on my NewFO list this month

The first, includes a block I shared Monday.
It's for a quilt I'm calling
Wintermint

because the Bliss fabric reminds me of

peppermint and wintergreen.

And here's my idea for a second block that will go with it.

Except the white will be plain white (no dots)

and white will also replace the blue dot fabric.

I really wanted to have the second block done before this post

but it didn't happen.

But thanks to Cat Patches idea for NewFOs,

we don't have to finish our projects, just get started on them.

Well I have one more project I started too.

It's my Raggedy Ann Redwork Quilt.

(Normally I won't show pieces that aren't pressed 

but these are still in process so I don't have a choice.)

My mom is helping with the embroidery...this is her first block.

It's fun to have projects we can do together...this is my first block.

And here they are together.

Of course there are more...and we'll get to them eventually.

So that's it for me, two NewFOs started in January.
